About Asics
Asics was founded in 1949 by Kihachiro Onitsuka in Kobe, Japan. The name comes from the Latin phrase "anima sana in corpore sano", a healthy mind in a healthy body. Decades of running innovation followed, including the Gel cushioning that's now on almost every shoe they make.
The models to know
The Gel 1130 first appeared in 2008 and is the easiest Asics to wear, clean and understated. The Gel Kayano 14, also from 2008, is the statement pair, with layered mesh and visible Gel. The Gel NYC, released in 2023, takes the upper of the Gel Nimbus 3 and pairs it with the sole of the Gel Cumulus 16. Prices run from £120 to £200.
Sizing
Asics generally fit true to size. If you're between sizes, go up half a size.
